The Story Behind Comprehensive Canine Training

Kate Godfrey, CPDT-KA, ABCDT, owner of Comprehensive Canine Training, LLC, in Columbia County, Florida, is an honors graduate of the Dog Obedience Instructor Program of Animal Behavior College. She did an extensive training externship with mentor trainer Stacy Strickland of Jacksonville Pawsitive Training, Inc.

Kate holds the CPDT-KA certification by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers and is an American Kennel Club CGC Evaluator.

She is also pursuing certification through NACSW to become a Certified Nose Work Instructor, currently holding the PNWI title. She competes with her dog Saxon at the NW3 level.

Kate has also helped with the Union Correctional Institution Rock Hounds program in Raiford, Florida and is a board member of the Lake City Humane Society.

Kate is also an alumnus of the University of North Florida, with bachelor's degrees in English and Philosophy, with a minor in Religious Studies. Kate is also an Official Mentor Trainer for CATCH Canine Trainers Academy.

Though there are various methods to train a dog, Kate is a major advocate for balanced, science-backed training methods. By teaching a dog what it is that you want it to do, you set the dog up to succeed. A good relationship with your dog comes from being firm, friendly, and fair.

Dogs need boundaries, just like humans. We owe it to our dogs to teach them how to live in our human world. This often means adjusting expectations - you cannot expect your dog to “know” what to do on its own. You must put in the time and effort in order to get results.

The dog that started it all!

Kate at home with her senior mixed-breed dog, Bea. RIP Bea. You brought joy to my life and taught me how to love, 2005-2018. The sweetest, most well-behaved boy there ever was.
